Often, parenting children who have experienced domestic violence is extremely challenging. Guidance about why their children act the way they do and how to help them overcome it can change the trajectory of a family's life. When parents understand their children and learn how to respond in nurturing, effective ways, they are freed to move forward in their own development and towards a better experience for their families. Teachers who gain tools for working with these children also find their jobs more rewarding and are inspired to stay in the profession longer.
Alta partners with two domestic violence shelters, as well as schools that teach their children. Parents, teachers and social workers benefit from strategies that help these children feel safe, self-confident, and eager to learn. You can help by donating sessions, or by simply purchasing sessions for yourself or someone you care about. Every 12 sessions you purchase provides a free session for a parent or training for teachers of children affected by domestic violence.
